Tattoo Talk Thursday: Staypuft

For those of you who don't know, I'm a massive Ghostbusters fan. (Not that shut one with the women in it, but the original one and two.) The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Vigo the Carpathian are my favourite characters of all times, but out of the two Puff wins. He's so cute and squishy and chubby. And as you all know, those are just a few of my favourite things.
I knew that I wanted to get a Stay Puft tattoo; I've been thinking about it for a long time, but now that shops are opened and I have a small window of time, I decided to try and make a tattoo appointment. I was in the other day getting my Dahlias done when Jay offered to introduce me to one of the new artists that they had and see if he could hook me up with an appointment sometime soon. We introduced ourselves and he told me that he had time on Thursday, the following day and I jumped at it. I didn't know when I'd have time off of work or when I'd have the energy after work to sit for a tattoo.

I arrive at the shop with a few minutes to spare. It's been ages since I've been tattooed. Well, it feels like ages. I was last tattooed before Christmas last year when I went on holiday to New Haven. That reminds me I need to head back to Hope Gallery tattoo and get some other pieces done when I have spare time. Maybe sometime this autumn. I dunno, we'll have to see how it goes, but I have a few other tattoos in the works!
He sets up and I lay down on the body table. We shoot the shit about travel, tattoo, tourism and a few other interests of ours. This is my first time getting tattooed by Curtis, but I have the feeling that it won't be my last. He's pretty chill. We decided to go with a sort of watercolour look for the tattoo, kind of like the Peter Rabit and his mum tattoo that I got whilst I was on holiday in New Zealand a few years back. He does a solid black outline, hitting the highlights with a sweet, warm grey tone. I asked him to make it look like it was popping just like in the artwork. I should note here that the drawing is not mine and you can purchase it from a link down below.

I'm not going to lie to you guys, it was a tender spot. There was a moment when I had the thought, "Why the fuck am I tattooing this part of my body?!" I've had this thought once or twice in my tattoo journey, like when I was getting the upper part of my ribs that goes into my armpit tattooed. That reminds me I have another little filler piece that I want to get in the next coming weeks...maybe I'll get those two on the same day and do one blog on filler ink. What do you guys think? It didn't take him long at all, a little over a half-hour. I was surprised it didn't take him that long and he explained he used to work in a street shop that was pretty high volume so he's used to working quickly. He's honed his craft in numerous countries. It was nice to meet other people who have travelled and have been tattooed in other countries. We can share the experiences, compare and contrast.

We finish up and I snap a picture to see the result. I couldn't be more thrilled. It's my cute, chubby little ickle pop come to life; my love for a film, a happy memory from my childhood forever in my skin. The grey shading is spot on and gives it a slightly toasted look that I totally love. The little sailor had is hilariously perched on his head. It's so innocent, yet so menacing. I often find that can be true of many things in life.  This is the perfect addition to my Stay Pift collection, especially since I just got the last Funko that I needed. Sure, I spent 80 something on it, but it's well worth it, especially when I started looking at prices other people wanted for him. I'm excited to get other pieces, both fillers and not in the upcoming months. I know that I need to start booking a few tattoos for special events so I can ensure that I'm being tattooed on those dates.

Until Next Time.
