Danny & Lil Phil Do Boston 🍔💉🍔💉🍔💉 Part One
Greetings from Hamburger Land!
Today's the kickoff of the Boston Tattoo Convention and Lil Phil and I are here in South Boston anxiously waiting for the ink festivities to commence later this afternoon. If you wanna come out and say hey, you can! I'd love to chat to some of you guys! :D
Le Rental
So I had planned on walking to the rental property, but upon realising that Google Maps was fucking with me once again, I caught a taxi...he dropped me off at the wrong place and I ended up walking almost 3 miles anyway. Thankfully the sky hadn't decided to throw some snow flurries or mist just yet. I was pissed off the entire walk to the correct street, (he dropped me off on D. Ave, not D st.) but found myself in a better mood when I stopped at Sweet Tooth bakery to ask if I was heading in the correct direction. The woman behind the counter told me that I was, I had to head down about ten minutes more and take a left. She was so warm and bubbly, I just couldn't help but enjoy talking to her. She asked me what I was doing in town and told her that I was here for the Tattoo Convention at the Hynes Centre. She asked for my info as we chatted and asked how long I was gonna be around. I told her for the weekend, after the convention I'm heading home. She hooked me up with an AMAZING fortune cookie cupcake, that I recommend anyone in Boston try. There's a brilliant surprise inside when you bite in! And it was the perfect pick up after 4 hours of walking around the convention and getting tattooed.
So I finally arrive at the rental and punch in the door code. The entire place was empty and still. I could hear the dryer going on the landing above and could see part of a kitchen. It's actually more of a kitchenette, but it was spotless. I rang the management and explained that I'd arrived at the property early and I was wondering if I could be let into my room early. The woman on the other end was a complete cunt hair. She's like I don't think so, it's not been cleaned yet and won't be ready for 5 hours. She then told me I could leave my luggage at my own risk and go off somewhere. Excuse me, what? I've a couple of thousands worth of electronic gear that I use for my job and I'll be goddamned if I'm expected to leave it in a nonsecure location. She made no effort to ask the cleaning staff to do my room first so that I could leave my gear in a safe space. I ended up waiting 2.5 hours before the cleaning woman arrived and saw me and was like "do you need to be let in?" and I explained the situation and told me she'd do my room first. She was lovely and I enjoyed our little chats throughout my time there, as it was only me and I had nowhere to go until the convention kicked off. Star rating for her! Shit, we didn't even exchange names. Maybe I'll see her before I depart tomorrow afternoon.
THE CONVENTION!!
I was expecting it to be a lot larger, with more artists, but the talent I saw there was amazing. There were tonnes of other vendors, some selling home-made alternative jewellery, some selling Merch, ones selling art prints, Asian Influenced jewellery and even some bondage type stuff. I got to meet some of the most amazing people there and in the first night of the convention, I'd made a few new friends!
Some of the body jewellery they were selling was so fucking gorgeous, I'd stop back to see what people were buying. I was curious how it would look on them. (Speaking of piercings, I've got a blog on that coming next month.) I walked around talking to different vendors getting info on their products, collecting samples and setting up interviews for the next day. (You'll get to see those once I have them all edited.)
I was far less shy than usual, maybe because I doubled up on anti-anxiety meds before I went. I was still a little scared to talk to people, but a few sucks on a CDB Cannabis lolly sorted me right out. I was engaging, happy and I wasn't shy in the slightest bit. Other artists and I shared stories, got to know one another and their lack of non-negative judgement really gave me a confidence boost. I was in with my own people-inked, modified. It felt amazing and was odd when I walked out of the convention hall and was back in the real world of almost complete nakedness. There were more ink virgins there than I ever expected...most of them were kind of slutty, truth be told. It gave me the impression they wanted to trade pussy for ink. Conventions don't work that way, the artists here are professional. I don't know why anyone would go to a convention with that kind of thought in mind.I don't know for sure that was what they were up to, but it's the first thought that crawled through me when I saw them in their little groups.

DARKLY DREAMING DANIEL
I know on my last Tattoo Talk Thursdays blog, I talked about getting a Dexter fan tattoo.
I needed to get this piece; it's more about being a fan of the book series and the show, it's
about blood; the good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful. When I saw the blood slide artwork
on the cover of Darkly Dreaming Dexter, I knew I had to have it on me.
Blood. Sometimes it sets my teeth on edge, other times it helps me control the chaos
-Dexter Morgan
The quote has been swimming around inside my skull ever since I first heard it uttered on Dexter. What a concept. Someone else feels the same as I do and freely admits. Different reasons of course, but the feeling it still the same. I've been a self-harmer for almost 15 years. Over half of my life. It comes and goes in periods. Sometimes I can be clean for months or weeks, I'm managing not to indulge and then I can't fight the urge anymore. I need its sweet relief. Sometimes it's the only thing that helps settle confusing aspects of my suicidal depression or sooth the turbulent waves of my manic outbursts.
And that is why it was placed on my wrist that is mostly damaged by my self-harm. You can see the serious mutilation of the skin and the malformation of my left wrist, where I sliced it completely open. It's been almost 2 years now since that fateful wound. I've accepted it, I just wish people wouldn't ask me about it randomly. Though, I was asked about it by Lliam, who was tattooing me at the convention. The scarring is so bad and hideous he asked if I'd been burned as he looked around my arm, possibly studying it in the different lights. I just told him that it wasn't a burn and that it was an accident. I didn't want to get into the fact my arm was coated in scar tissue because I've cut it open the past almost 13 years (wrists came later in my progressive self-harm.) and that the huge crevis is from a suicide attempt. I'm thankful that he didn't push it and he showed me some of his burns, then dropped the subject.
He's got a delicate hand and he's well experienced in his craft. If I didn't know I was being tattooed, I thought have thought that I was. We didn't even talk about tattooing that much! We talked about some of our favourite programmes, talked literature, shared our writing styles and joked about how you know you're old when your favourite music starts appearing in the 'classic rock' pile. It was one of the best tattoo experiences I've ever had! I can't wait to visit his shop as I said I was interested and he extended the offer to come out. He tattoos out of Staten Island, New York, so I'm going to have to try and head down there during the summer months to have him do some work on me! Meanwhile, you guys can check out his IG which I linked below!
There are also 4 mini clips of me getting this tattoo now up on my YouTube Channel so go and have a look there! I couldn't use the audio from the last two because of copyright for some of the music and another was the person next to me getting tattooed talking about her experience and what her tattoo meant and it wouldn't have been appropriate for me to share that.

Lil Phil with my fresh blood slide Tattoo!
I'm loving the rich tones of red that were added and the small tiny white bursts
that add real depth and contrast to the piece. It's perfect and I couldn't be more satisfied
with it. I'm gonna talk about the healing process on this tattoo at a later date, as I'm trying out a new product for the healing of it.
What do you guys use to heal your tattoos? Sometimes I dry heal, sometimes I use Nivea (no other brand of lotion) or try products that I get as gifts / promos. Share your stories good or bad! I'd love to read them!! I'm going to pick one of my favourite tattoo stories and the winner will get SkinFix Sample to try on their new / old ink! To enter simply DM me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Contest ends in 2 weeks! GO!
