Delectables with Dan: PIZZA BOYES
This won't be a spooky baking thing. Sorry, but Pork Chop is in the spirit with a cute little Jack-O-Lantern beanie! I was just in the mood to make a pizza and decided why not blog it as I go? It's not like I have anything else to do on a Saturday night. Yep, that's my existence. Some Pokemon Stadium, some pizza and facials.
While we pre-heat the oven to 200C (400F) we'll put on our charcoal facial scrub masks. Do note that the temperature is for an average crust, for a thicker crust you may need a slightly higher temperature. The goal is to make sure the crust cooks and the toppings don't burn.
For this you will need:
1.5 lb of pizza dough
SAUCE
450g of tomato puree
1 tablespoons garlic salt
2 tablespoons basil & oregano
125g diced tomatoes
1 teaspoons of melted butter
1 tablespoons of basil
1/2 teaspoon of garlic salt
1 teaspoon of breadcrumbs
85g shredded mozzarella cheese
35g shredded provolone cheese
2 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese
17 pieces of pepperoni
Allow your dough to breathe for a little bit before you start slathering it in sauce, cheese and meat. Let it sit out in a large bowl on its own. While it's doing its thing, we need to make the sauce for this bitch! I suppose you could use a pizza sauce you buy at a store or pasta sauce, but I love a nice freshness when I make a pizza.
In a medium-sized saucepan, add your tomato puree, diced tomatoes, basil, garlic salt, and oregano. Stir together with a baking spoon. Allow your sauce to heat for 10-15 minutes on a medium heat, stirring occasionally.
Drizzle a bit of olive oil onto your hands before working the dough. Knead the dough for about 5-6 minutes. Oh, Jesus, this is like working on Chubb's upper thighs and soft hips. I'm in heaven right now. Don't mind me here, folks. 'Oh yeah, you like that, baby?' And before I bring the dough upstairs, it's time for the next step. Spread out on a clean surface and flatten out into a circle or a circle shape before placing it onto a pizza pan.
Melt your butter in the microwave for 30 seconds, then add in your breadcrumbs, basil and garlic salt. Mix together with a pastry brush before applying to the crust edges of your pizza. This will give it a lovely buttery taste when you bite into it.
Once you've applied your butter-sauce alone the trim...I love how the word "trim" has become a euphemism for vagina. "Come on lads, let's go get some trim." HA HA! English is such a great language. Back to pizza making! Once you've done that, it's time to add your sauce. The amount I used to make the sauce allows for extra sauce for dipping the crust if you so desire. Carefully ladle your sauce into the centre of the pizza dough. With a rubber spatula, carefully spread the sauce evenly across its surface. Apply as much sauce as desired.
What time is it? You got it. It's cheese time. Taking your cheese evenly sprinkle and coat the sauce. Bring it out to the tip of your crust. Once you've done this, sprinkle parmesan cheese around the edge for an extra cheese bit. You can even sprinkle it over the top of the pizza if you want!
In whatever pattern you want, or like me, decorate your cheesy top with thin-sliced pepperoni! I wanted to make sure no matter where I bit I'd have a nice bit of pepperoni. I brought this back with me from Rhode Island, it was in this neat little-sealed package you didn't have to refrigerate until you opened it! It was totally wild. (You can get pepperoni from Saintsbury's. That's where I usually get mine.) Put it in to bake for 25 minutes or until crust is a delicious golden brown. Do so on the lowest rack of your oven.
It's now time for Pork Chop and me to return to the bedroom where we'll snack in some pizza and watch Sleepy Hollow!
