VeggieReviews: Betty Lou's Fruit Bars (Strawberry)
In my Easter basket, I got a few goodies that I'm going to do little reviews on. This was my first ever 100% vegan Easter basket and I'm really excited to share the treats that I got, see what you guys think of them and even make suggestions for other snacks, sweets and gift baskets. Today's review is going to be on Betty Lou's Fruit Bars, the strawberry flavour. I did get the blueberry one so there will be a review on that soon. I'm thinking of doing an archive of this series and all the others on my Facebook page with links so people can check them out anytime. I think it would be easier than trying to search blogs since, on this site, you can't arrange by category and have a master list archive of series.
They're actually really affordable when you get them at a store. I think these were bought on a 2 for 3 sale, but I can't really be sure of the price. Let's see. The packaging is small, cute and inviting. Pretty easy for the grab and go lifestyle. If I like them they might even make it into the Travelling While Vegan series. I like that they fit in my hand and easily inside my bag. They smell good when I open them up. It doesn't smell exactly like a fresh pie, but there's a strong fruit smell. It doesn't really smell like strawberry to me...and there's more than just strawberry in here. There's pineapple? Okay then. It doesn't really look like a fruit bar or a pie slice. I'm not gonna lie here, the pie slice on the package, despite the text made me think I was gonna get a mini slice of pie. Kinda disappointed on that front. Shit, I sound like a food-obsessed slob there. Well, let's press on, then. It looks like a little brown square. It's kind of like a fig bar? Those things are fucking delicious. I should do a blog on making them since there are many brands that aren't vegan. If you know of a vegan brand of them, let me know! There's a brand of one that I really want to try, I just need to find them.
Let's see what this tastes like. Nothing like strawberry pie. I know, I've made one. Now I really want to make a strawberry and apple pie. I don't know why. What the hell is it with me and wanting to bake things more and more? I don't have the time. Maybe I'll make mini pies of them. It's got an interesting texture. It's soft and kind of chewy. Better than hard. I was wondering how it would be texture wise since it was in a package, but it's actually nice. It tastes like a cross between strawberry, pineapple and like a citrus fruit. There's no buttery texture too it, so it really is more like a fruit bar. Its got kind of a strange after taste, it's not really sweet like fruit, it's hard to put my finger on what it is. It's kinda a low-grade sweet with oats. It's really more like a cereal bar than a fruit bar to me anyway. All in all, it was nice. I'm going to give it 3 leaves out of 5.

You can also look for locations close to you that stock the fruit bars and other products.
I'm not sure if all of them are vegan, you'll have to read on the product descriptions to see. I know that the company does offer a vegan sample pack, so I imagine most of the things are.
