FIRST FUNKO TRIP!
Hey everybody!
I know I'm a little late to the party with this, but recently my mate got me into Funko Pops. He'd talked about them before, but I wasn't really sure what they were, what the specialness was about them or what their purpose was. He explained how they're collectable figures/toys that come in different sizes, editions and exclusives that are created off of popular culture films, tv shows, musicians and celebrities. I wasn't really sure at first, but when he started showing me his collection and explaining them and his favourite ones I could see what the fuss was all about. He was kind of shook that I'd not collected any Funkos at all, despite them being out for a while and my love for some of the films that are some of the most popular pops.
Then I found out that there are Ghostbusters Pops. I knew about The Nightmare Before Christmas ones cause he's got some of them, but this. I laid eyes on a massive Stay Puft pop and I knew I had to have him. It stood for someone that I love, a film that I love and a memory that's brought me such joy throughout my life. That and Stay Puft is my favourite character. Could I have ordered it somewhere? Probably. Did I want to? Eh, not really. I wanted to spend time with my friend, seeing his joy and learning more about the hobby with him.
So one evening he asked me if I wanted to go to Gamestop and pick up the pop I was over the moon. I wanted to skip into the shop, but instead, I followed behind him as we went in. I damn near grabbed the pop. We took some time looking around, checking out the other pops and prices, but the 10-inch was the reason for the trip. We got the pop and headed back to his house, me struggling to contain my joy. It was more about getting the pop; It was about spending time with someone, about learning about them, the hobby and having something to share with someone for the longest time. I like collecting, I like the toys, looking for a good sale, looking at release dates for the ones that we want. It gives me something fun to engage with. Since that first trip we've gone to get Funkos on two more occasions together; to get the Sanderson sisters for me and The Office new releases for him. It's lovely to be able to share this. There are so many more that I want, like it's unreal. Not having them all will probably drive me bonkers, but hey, there's always someone out there willing to make a deal.
Now he's got his own little shelf that overlooks my bed. I love his little smiling face. Now I can have another good memory attached to Stay Puft and Ghostbusters as I continue to collect the pops for them. I can't wait to go on other pop trips, share new adventures and pops with one another as our collections and friendship grow.
