Travelling While Vegan: Vegan Rapide

Sometimes it can be difficult travelling with dietary needs, regardless of the reasons for them. It's been 4 years since I attempted to go meatless in Montreal, but this time not eating dairy, I wondered how that would limit my choices. I knew that after long days out I'd just want something quick without the hassle of cooking. Takeaways are a godsend some of the time.
I can be a picky guy. No way around it. I can be a very picky cunt. The other night I was really in the mood for a veggie burger, I dunno, just had that craving for them, but there are so many types of veggie burger that it can be hard to choose. I was browsing through the vegan options for delivery to me and none of them were really reaching out to me. I'd love to try one made with fresh veggies, but if it's not done right, especially using eggplant, it could taste like shit. I wasn't ready to take that kind of risk.  I'd had a read through of Vegan Rapide's menu and I was really liking what I was seeing. Good prices, great menu. I figured I'd take it. I'd never had a burger like this before. Most of the time I've had garden burgers or veggie burgers, but this one was a soy-based vegan steak burger. Ordering was easy and when they were running a little late on orders because it was busy, they reached out and let me know. I really appreciate that; it shows their customers are important to them. I ordered the cheeseburger. It comes with tasty vegan cheddar, ketchup, mustard, onions and lettuce. Ordered a side of chips and waited.

I didn't expect what I bit into. It was like biting into a real beef burger; it reminded me of the McDonald's burgers I had as a kid, the flavour combo. I panicked for a second and thought I was eating real meat, but upon further inspection, it wasn't. I was blown out of the water. It was a perfect eating temperature, not overcooked, maybe a few too many onion slices for my taste, but other than, that out of this world. Sometimes when you order a cheeseburger you get one slice of cheese on it, but not with this one! You can see the cheese oozing out of it. I've never had a burger like this before and I'm excited to try other burgers like this. Well worth what I paid for it. And as you can see from the picture above, it's a giant burger. Some places you get a tiny burger and like nothing at all. Great food, great value. I'm sure as hell going to be back here when I next have the chance. Now I'm thinking about burgers at 3 in the morning, Christ. Well, they've got a return customer in me! They have several different locations throughout Montreal that you can choose from too! Walk in or take away. You can get information or order down below. Stay veggie, my friends.
