Fête Music Hall Is Cancelled

I bought tickets for my sister and me to go see the 69 Eyes in Providence at the Fete Music Hall since it was the closest place available to us. I'd never been to this venue before, but having been to many on the New England coast, I didn't figure it would be much different. We were excited. It was a present for her 21st birthday. We figured we'd go down early, make a day of it since the doors for the gig opened at 6:30. Little did we know that upon arriving there we'd not only see the band we've been dying to see play, I'd have my rights trampled and was told by the venue to go fuck myself. Cooperate greed has more weight than the health and medical needs of the people who PAY to go see shows and keep this shitehole open. Here's what happened.

They changed the time the doors opened. A half hour, but they didn't even have anyone come out and let the lot of us who'd been lined up for a better part of an hour. They updated the opening time on fucking Facebook. If I hadn't randomly checked the page I'd never had known. That's kind of low-class if I'm honest. Not everyone is glued to their mobile phone. A few minutes after 7 the line started moving and it was time to go in. I had my ticket and ID to show that I was over the age of 21 to enter the bar venue. I handed it over and they marked that I was allowed to purchase and consume alcohol. They stopped my sister to search her bag, but nothing was said to me. I didn't want to get in trouble or anything, so I pointed it out to security that they didn't bother to look inside mine and offered it to one of them. They went through my bag and pulled out the replacement. I told them I need that and they can't throw that out. They wouldn't let me explain any further as they pulled it out of my bag and set it to the side. They didn't even let me know if they were going to keep it or bin it as soon as I went inside the venue. I was shoved into the building as the line of people behind me were moving to get in. If I wasn't honest and told security that they missed searching my bag, I could have brought it in. I'm beginning to think that being honest is not really worth all the trouble it causes. I'm really not impressed with my treatment at this place or the way I was disrespected on their page. Then as you can see they call me a liar when they put "medical" in quotations.

According to the ticket, there were going to be other two acts before the 69 Eyes. I was excited. I was dying to see them in a US show and so was my sister, who'd never seen them before. The first band was kind of crap; they had a pre-recorded track along with them since they'd recorded with two guitars and only had one live. All it really was, was a continuous lot of noise. Nothing really musical or metal about it. Didn't really bother me, I didn't come to see them. They broke down their things and the next band took about 15 minutes to set up; pretty standard. They got up and did their set. The same kind of noise. What the fuck happened to music? I was a bit perplexed, but I knew it was worth it. Another 30 minutes of crap and they started breaking down their set. Yes. It was 69 time.

A guy walked out and they started setting up different guitars, keyboards and a different drumset. I was a little confused as there was already a kit there with the 69 Eyes logo on there. Maybe Jussi wanted to use a different one for the opening part of the show. What the fuck would I know, I'm not a drummer. They took 30 minutes to set up. I looked at my watch wondering when the band would be on. Our ride would be here in an hour and I didn't want to miss the gig I came to see. They announced it would be another few minutes before the band would come on-a band that wasn't the one I came to see. Okay, maybe they just didn't have room on the ticket to put a third act. Three openers isn't unusual. They took their time setting up and I was annoyed when they took the stage. They had a little over a 30-minute set; they weren't bad, much better than the first two that had rattled my brain bucket for the last hour or so. They asked if we were ready for the 69 Eyes so I assumed they were on next. I got all fired up. She'd be okay with waiting a few minutes while we saw the end of the gig-then they started setting up a laptop and DJ set. That's not used in a rock gig-it dawned on me there was another act and that I would have to miss the end of the show. I wasn't impressed. It took them nearly 40 minutes to set up for this little girl who bounced onto the stage and attempted to sing over a pre-done track. What the fuck is this? I didn't pay to come see this kind of techno-pop shit. I came to see real music. I wouldn't be able to even see the band at this point. The organisational skills of these people really blow. I was ready to lose my collective shit, but seeing as I had my little sister with me, I knew that I needed to keep my temper under control.

Our ride called about 5 minutes into her set, letting us know she was a few minutes away. Pissed beyond belief, I slammed out of the venue, using the band entrence, not wanting to have to wade through the sweaty, unwashed scumbags that spent almost the majority of the gig sliding across me as they went back and forth across the bar room in search of low-class one night stands. I shoved through the crowd, not caring if I hurt anyone, pulling Peaches behind me. I walk out and find the two security jack offs from earlier. If they've gotten rid of my beverage, I'm going to beat someone. I'm not feeling well from the heat, lack of liquids and the rage of being cheated out of the band I came to see. I call out to the fat, bald man who'd gone through my bag hours earlier, asking where my shit was. He told me they were still here if I wanted them. No, I'm asking because I don't want. Dumbfuck. I take both mine and my sister's things from him, nearly taking his hand off in the process. I'm shaking with rage and overheat when my ride pulls up.

I hope that bands looking to play in the area think twice about entering a contract with this "business" and consider the needs and medical conditions of their fans/supporters when making decisions. I've spoken to several bands that I know and not one of them want to do business with a venue that doesn't care about the needs of their patrons or even want to address their concerns in a polite and professional manner.

I'm hoping that I have a better experience when I go to see Ghost this autumn.

Have some thoughts? Here are their official website and social media accounts. Leave a few thoughts for them. Cheers.
