Behind the Scenes of Happiness & Homicide: Best of Wil Kana

I've thought about doing this blog for the longest time, but I've not got round to doing it until now. Wil is one of my favourite characters I've ever created, him possessing many of my own traits and talents. I first started writing him in late 2009, early 2010, so for about a decade he's been the nasty little voice inside of me, pushing me to try new things and explore many aspects of myself that I otherwise never would have. (This isn't a confession of any crimes, either.) Today's blog will be some of the lesser known facts about literature's favourite jublient serial killer and perpetual troublemaker.

1. His favourite band is Oasis and he sports tattoos of the Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel on his inner thighs. He's rather partial to Liam, seeing as he's a twat and so is Wil. He has tattoos for Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova and Little By Little.
2. His favourite brand of trainers are Addidas and he's seen frequently wearing them, even when he's incarcerated both in prison and the psychiatric unit of a hospital. His second favourite brand is Converse. Black, always black. He's a size 10.
3. He has brown-hazel eyes, the colour will shift based on light and his mood, alternating from dark brown (almost black) to amber, honey brown, green-brown and golden.
4. Throughout his life, Wil has lived in Manchester, Essex, London and Berlin. He's a fluent German speaker and will mutter in German during moments of frustration.
5. He claims that he's the byproduct of a sexual experiment of his parents featuring a parrot, but it's most likely that he's said this in humour.
6. In addition to being an Oasis fan, he's also a massive fan of The Smashing Pumpkins and sports tattoos of the band's lyrics down his rib cage and the iconic ice-cream truck from the smash-hit "Today" on his lower stomach. The same area also features song text from another 90's band, the text reading "California Here We Come!" in a playful font, despite his dislike for the Silicon State.
7. Wil has a strong dislike for red meat, despite his love for carnage. He doesn't not consume it for moral reasons, but for reasons of taste. The only dairy product he consumes is cheese. His love for cheese borders on obsession.
8. Wil has many piercings, one through his tongue, two through his bottom lip, 8 in his right ear, 8 in his left ear, nipple piercings, belly button piercing and he has the Prince Albert done. He said the act of the needle piercing his body is highly sexual and erotic to him; he refers to piercing as an act of sexual penetration through a surrogate.
9. Is an avid drinker, his alcohol of choice being vodka. His favourite drinks are vodka mixed with diet coke, screwdrivers, Cape Codders and sangria margaritas. He's a silent partner in a popular North London bar, Pour One On Me. The bar features live topless dancers on the weekend. He's a well-known binge drinker, using alcohol to cope with his suicidal depression when he reaches his breaking point. Being in prison has curbed his binge drinking, but there are occasions when a guard, who is also a fan of his band and his friend will slip him a bottle of vodka.
10. He's the founder, singer and guitarist of his rock band Paper Hearts. He was inspired to become a musician when he was 13 years old when he discovered the talents of Oasis, Dave Grohl and Billy Corgan. Despite his mother's efforts to derail his dreams, he mastered several instruments, playing not only guitar but bass and piano. His band has released 2 EPs and 2 full albums. Despite his incarceration sales are through the roof and he still writes music with his former bandmates via prison letters, him having several writing credits on the band's upcoming album.
11. When Wil first met Phil, Phil suspected that Wil suffered from DID (dissociative identity disorder) or multiple personality disorder based on his personality traits, contradicting beliefs and views and rapid in his sense of self. He appears to be two people at once, but it is his lack of a true self-identity and compartmentalisation that results in his opposing behaviours and personality traits. He possesses other versions of himself that he has willfully created to deal with the trauma of his youth, things he finds uncomfortable or believes he can't deal with. These self-imposed "alters" are ways he can work through things without the entire weight of the situation is on him, alleviating some of the mental stress and absolving him of certain aspects of responsibility he finds annoying.
12. He has a tattoo of his favourite animal, a racoon. The tattoo is of a racoon eating a baguette with a little king's crown perched on his head. The tattoo is on his left ankle.
