DAN THE DOODLEBUG 4 ✏️✏️✏️✏️

It's that time again!
Yep, a new instalment of DAN THE DOODLEBUG!!
I'm thinking I should do these a bit more often? Include more of the stuff I post on my IG & Twitter.
We'll see what the future holds.

Mat Devine
Singer of Kill Hannah & Wrongchilde
I've been a Kill Hannah fan for ages and their music has been a source of inspiration and the soundtrack to so many mind-blowing adventures for me. Mat's always been my favourite; artistic, smooth & stylish- Everything that I wanted to be when I was a teenager listening to his lyrics, having them wrap around me and provided me comfort when I had little else.
I was sitting bored one evening before heading to Chicago to see the Kill Hannah final shows (I had a panic attack and didn't even see the shows, I ran back and hid in my hotel suite and cried for about an hour. Thanks, anxiety for fucking me out of that.) I was looking for something to draw and then it hit me. 'Why not draw Mat?'
I went with one of his most recent photos, I think it was his Facebook display picture, honestly, I can't fucking remember. Then again, I can't remember what I had for breakfast two days ago, so what the fuck is 2 and a half years ago?

Evan Peters as Tate Langdon
(All Monsters Are Human)
As many of you know I am a huge American Horror Story fan & Evan P is brilliant to me, so it makes perfect sense I would have captured one of his most iconic moments in the medium of pencil. Season one of AHS is my favourite and probably always will be, though Coven is a close second then Hotel. I've not seen the last season yet, so if anyone tries to tell me about it they will be punched in the face. I hate spoilers more than I hate paying taxes.
I wanted to capture him in a semi-twisted frame decorated by my signature flower, roses, but allow the portrait to be the complete focus of the piece, which sometimes can be a difficult feat since I fuckin love drawing surroundings/backgrounds. When I'd finished the sketch, I still felt as if something was missing, so I decided to finish the piece off with one of my favourite quotes of the show. Yeah, I know the quote is from Asylum not Murder House, but I feel the saying fits Tate's character so well. During that season we got to see the boy, the human and the monster which is compelling and so true of the individuals we cross paths with on a daily basis. All in all, it's one of my favourite sketches and who knows? I might do another AHS Evan portrait at some point. Kinda feeling a Mr March one if I do another.

Jason Gann as Wilfred
"You're a naughty boy!" - Wilfred to Ryan (1x1, US edition)
I fucking love the show Wilfred. It's dark, it's comical and it bends the rules that society has placed before us. Jason stars as Wilfred whom he created and also wrote for in this twisted psychological comedy of a show. His comic genius is present from start to finish and he makes you stop and think about how you're living your life. I loved the show from the first episode I ever saw. I think I saw the US version first as someone mentioned it to me when it first came out. The Australian version is still funny, but it has darker undertones. I recommend watching both, especially because it's twice the Wilfred.
I wanted to do a portrait to pay tribute to a show that had me laughing so hard that I almost weed during several episodes. I think I was in LA when I did this sketch or I had just returned from living there. ((Memories from that period in my life are really sketchy & so many parts are just blank.)) I did the sketch off of a promo poster that I'd seen on a Wilfred fanpage on Facebook. The cigarette, the what the fuck expression-basically a grown man in a dogsuit. What could make a better portrait? There aren't many in my opinion. Instead of the traditional massive scale portraits I usually like to do, I decided to go for the simple with this one to really capture the huge personality of Wilfred. I tied it off with a bone with his name in it because so many doggo picture frames have bones on them and it just felt right. Naughty Boy was done to top off the piece so you get more of a complete picture of who and what Wilfred is.

And whilst on the subject of doggos...

Layla
This was the first pet portrait that I'd ever been asked to do. A friend reached out to me after her beloved doggo died and asked me if did any work with animals. Truthfully, I hadn't done that much but I told her that I could try and knock something out for her. She said she wanted a full body portrait of Layla with some flowers, filigree, the whole dog and pony show and I set to work on trying to create something beautiful that would help T heal.
It took a day and a half to make sure I got the texture of the fur just right and finding the perfect balance of banner and foliage. In doing this first real animal portrait, I learned that animals are just as expressive and unique in photos as their human counterparts and you really need to capture that essence in order for it to be a true portrait of the animal. When I showed T, she was in tears. She told me that I had captured her precious Laya perfectly and that she couldn't wait to have the portrait tattooed on her.

And that wraps up the latest Dan the Doodlebug!
Keep your eyes peeled for the next one!
