JAB JAB!
Its that last part of tour preparations that I hate the most.
Vaccinations.
Its always a great idea whist traveling to get any and all
vaccinations at least 4-6 weeks before you depart. I only
get vaccinations before I leave to a new country or visit one
that does not have good medical facilities. I always check
what the country's department of travel/immigration recommend
or require as I'm making my travel plans and tour dates.
Heading to the Ukraine and Moldova they highly recommend
Hepatitis A, Polio, MMR and a Flu shot before entering the countries.
Rather than take a risk, as I've read they have found drinking water
contaminated with Hep. A, I went and got the jab. The only thing that
shocked me were the costs of some of these!
I found a clean and safe clinic and went in to make sure they had the
vaccinations I needed in stock. They didn't but they ordered them at
no cost to me and worked on MY schedule. A day later, I was in to get
my jabs done. I only got the flu and the Hep A yesterday, as the pharmacist
recommend I waited to get the Polio (as it apparently is still devastating parts
of the former USSR.) So next week, I return for my last jab! I already had the
MMR, so I'm all set on that one!
You can also get updated information on Lonely Planet. They're a brilliant
outfit and they often are exactly as informative as government sites, yet so
much easier to understand.
I can't wait to explore the Black Sea, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Hungary and
Slovakia! Have any of you guys been to these countries? Its going to be an amazing
whirlwind 17 day trip across Eastern Europe and then back to London!
