Delectables with Dan: Come Taste My Delicious Buns
Delectables with Dan is back!
It's been a while but I finally have things in order so that I can start this kick-ass series up again! Pork Chop will be featured here and there in some of the instalments, but he won't be a usual like before. We're going to kick this off with a delectable set of red velvet chocolate buns! They're like cinnamon rolls but filled with mini chocolate chips with a chocolate ganache drizzled over them.
What You Will Need:
1 package red velvet cake mix
2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour
1 package active dry yeast
1-1/4 cups warm water
1 cup mini chocolate chips
1 cup confectioner's sugar
In a large mixing bowl combine the red velvet cake mix, yeast and half of the flour required. Mix with an electric hand mixer until things are evenly blended. Add in your warm water. The water has to be warm for this to work. You also don't want it too hot either. Happy balance. It will turn a lovely rich blood colour. When the mixture has done that, it means that it's ready!
And since Chubb isn't here to lick my beaters (looks directly into the camera and winks like in The Office) I'm just gonna have to toss these things into the sink. Let your beaters soak if your partner isn't there to lick them clean. You don't want this stuff sticking to them.
Now we're not going to keep it a mixture, we're going to turn this into a dough. Mix in enough flour to turn it into a nice little ball of dough. Once you've done that, you wanna knead it. Work that dough like its the inner thigh of your lover, tender but with a bit of force. Don't get too carried away, this should only take a minute or so to do.
Transfer your dough baby into a greased bowl, cover with clingfilm and allow it to double in size. It should take 2 hours, sometimes a little more.
Once the dough has risen, it's time to plop it down on a floured surface. Not too much, not too little. Again, balance. That's the keyword for today. I'd say moderation, but that would feel too much like an anti-drinking add and that's no Bueno. You want to punch down the dough, we're talking lightly do it, this isn't a domestic violence squabble. With a rolling pin, roll out the dough on the floured surface into the shape of a rectangle. Once you have done this, sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly around the surface. Roll the though into a long, thick log...Cut the dough into semi-thick even strips...Okay, I can't just leave this alone, I need a moment.
Right! Sorry about that, now where were we? Oh, right baking! Now that you've got your slices, grease a baking pan, a 13x9 is good, there may be some room left over if you use a larger pan, but it doesn't matter, they're gonna fluff up as they bake. Put them in to bake for 20 minutes at 350F. You may need a few minutes less time, depending on your oven. I wish they'd get this shit under control. I mean, fucks sake, they have vibrators that will sync to your iTunes library, but they can't make a universal oven? I'm getting off topic here; back to the baking. They'll puff up nice and thicc. Oh yeah, you know how we like it here. Pull them out and allow them to cool a little bit before you drizzle the chocolate ganache on them.
Some asshole ate them before I could make the ganache to drizzle over them so I don't have a photo, but I'll explain how to do it here.
What You Will Need:
1/2 cup (4oz) semi-sweet baking chocolate chips.
1/2 cup double cream
You want to put the cream in a small saucepan and heat until the cream is about to boil. Or if you're lazy, put the cream in a microwave container and microwave for a minute to a minute and a half depending on your microwave. Once the cream is hot, pour over the chocolate and whisk until smooth and creamy.
Drizzle the ganache over the buns and serve while either still warm or cool. Pairs nicely with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Enjoy.
