Tinfoil Hats and Tour Prep (Part Two)
Greetings and Salutations Interweb World!
As promised, here's Tinfoil Hats and Tour Prep Part Two!
MONEY MONEY MONEY
Always take a little extra cash in your currency or in the currency of the country(ies) you're visiting! Stash it somewhere safe in your hotel room, like the safe. (personally I don't use the safes in hotel rooms because I think they're untrustworthy.) NEVER carry all your money when you go out, especially if you're going to be drinking or getting high. Take a bare minimum amount of currency for the evening. Its better to have to tell your mates you've reached your spending limit then to be mugged and be stranded.
FLASH!
Most people take photos when they travel. These days, we rely on digital devices rather than film or polaroids. (I still use polaroids and film in some of my work) And accidents and thefts happen so prepare yourself. You can get a cheap thumb drive on amazon or at many local stores. Store all your photos on this drive to make sure you don't lose the memory.
It's also important to remember to have copies of your important documents, passports, other ID cards, health insurences and visas stored not only in your travel binder, but digital as well. It can sometimes be easier than lugging around a binder! You can also take photos of them and save them on your iPad/iPhone (whatever ya got) as well. ---> Postcards are also awesome in leu of photos! Get a few for yourself and your mates/family. They're often cheap enough and can make someone's day! You don't have to post them on your travels either. :)
As a writer, I always write about the people I meet, things I see and events I go to. Keep a journal digital or handwritten. It can make for great stories for kids, mates and family, as well as a awesome way to remember your travels! Write about the good, bad and everything inbetween. Do it for yourself, not an audience. It makes the whole thing so much more fun.
Don't be afraid to get out and mingle. Don't worry about a language barrier! Having a good time doesn't need a spoken language! Memories are priceless, so experience all that you can.
