VEGGIEREVIEWS:NoSugarAloud Brownies
I'm going to start doing reviews of some of the vegan products that I try! This is in no way sponsored by any of the companies, this is just my own thoughts on the products: the good, the bad and the indifferent. If you have something that you'd like to see me try and review, leave a comment or shoot me a DM on Twitter/ Instagram!
My first review is going to be the Life Can Be Sweet Without Sugar Brownie! I like sweet things but I'm not big on all the sugar. I wanted to look for something that would sort me out dessert wise but also fit into my diet. I saw this as a pop-up on my Instagram so I checked it out. After a little bit of research, I decided to give it a go.
This little treat cooks up in the microwave using a little golden baking cup or you can use it in the oven if you wanted to, but I thought the whole point of this was a quick, hassle-free dessert. Right, let's see what's in the box.
So it comes with two little squeeze tubes of peanut butter that can be resealed, a small packet of mini dark chocolate chips, a small packet of mixed nuts, the brownie mix, six little golden cooking cups and six lids. I really don't know what the lids are for. Looks like this should be easy enough. Make one at a time. The instructions are on the back of the box...fill one of the golden baking cups 3/4 full and add a tablespoon and a half of tap water mix well and bake.
Its kind of a pain in the ass to mix the brownie mix and water together in a shallow cup like this. I think they should be just a little bit deeper. That sounded way filthier than I expected...anyway, once you've mixed it well, you pop it into the microwave. Microwave on high for 90 seconds, then allow it to rest for 3 minutes before topping and serving. Then on some tiny print underneath it says cooking time may vary based on microwave power. It smells okay when I take it out of the microwave. Not really chocolatey, more of a kind of warm scent?
You need to allow it to sit for 3 minutes before adding your toppings. You can choose from dark Belgian chocolate, peanut butter or chopped nuts. Me, being the flavour whore that I am, is going to use all three. Start out with the peanut butter-oh neat, it has a little re-sealable top! That's a plus, but the other bags aren't. What gives? Swirl the peanut butter around the top of the little cake, then add the chocolate chips and nuts. It looks brilliant. The beat butter isn't that overly sweet shit that they tend to sell in most shops; good. I'm not one for peanuts actually, but I love peanut butter. I love being an oxymoron.
Let's try it out. Its got a decent chocolate taste. For some reason, it tasted kinda salty to me. It had a nice cake texture, it wasn't chewy or dried out like some little microwave bake cakes have. Overall it wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible. I give it a 3/5 rating. Is it work the $20.00 that it is? Fuck no. I think $10.00 would be alright, but still a little much. It's a great idea in theory, but it's not something that I'd get again. Try it out for yourselves! Maybe it was just an off day for my tastebuds, but I think I might just give this another go. Might as well, I spent good money on this.
